Helping Employers To Find You Online

Question:

Should I upload my resume to the Maryland Workforce Exchange (MWE)? How is this done and what are the benefits?

Answer:

Definitely! It’s not hard to simply upload your resume. Log into your account; click on Resume Builder on the left-hand menu; click Upload a Resume, and follow the prompts.

However, the MWE experts don’t recommend you do it that way.

The MWE experts recommend you use the Background Wizard to build a new resume. It will ask you what feels like 10,000 questions; but then it will build a resume for you. The best part is that your resume will now be searchable; employers can now find you. This will make it easier for you to get hired, and also to be recommended to employers by AJC staff.

Uploading your resume will save you time in the short run, but may cost you dearly in the long term. Your ideal job may be open; the employer may be searching for someone just like you; but he won’t see your resume in the MWE, because of the formatting.

To get to the Background Wizard, log into your account; click on My Portfolio on the left; then Resume Builder; then, in the middle of the page, Background Wizard. Follow the prompts (there are 18 short pages of them.) You’ll need to give your resume a title (e.g., “Admin Assistant Resume”) by choosing Quick Menu from your Dashboard, then going to Resume Creation Method. Choose “Internal” and click “Next.” The Resume Builder will walk you through the information you just put in, so you can verify it.

Now you will be searchable!
