Free E-Learning Courses to Advance Your Job Search

By Richard John Jenkins, FCWS Program Instructor

Hello! I’m Richard John Jenkins, Program Instructor with Frederick County Workforce Services. I’m pleased to announce the completion and availability of two brand-new on-demand e-Learning tutorials for individuals who are trying to find a new job or considering a change in career path: Using LinkedIn Like a Pro and Getting Started with Zoom.

These and other soon-to-be-released online tutorials are designed to empower job seekers with knowledge on many popular career growth topics. Future courses will focus on general job searching, how to create a top-notch resume, writing cover letters, interviewing both in-person and virtually, developing in-demand soft skills, and much more!

USING LINKEDIN LIKE A PRO

Do you have a LinkedIn Profile? Is your LinkedIn profile up to date? Have you taken the time to reach out to your network of contacts and grow them? Simply put, LinkedIn is the “go-to” platform for anyone who wants to advance their career. Through the Using LinkedIn Like a Pro course, you can get up to speed on how to strategically use LinkedIn to achieve your employment goals. In this video tutorial created especially for job seekers, you’ll learn how to set up a LinkedIn account, create a great profile, search for jobs and build a top-notch network of professional connections.

The Using LinkedIn Like a Pro course also features real-world interviews with hiring managers from local Frederick county businesses. It’s one thing to see a bullet point on a slide about how to create a LinkedIn profile, and another experience entirely when you have two people responsible for making hiring decisions telling you why they might reject and toss your profile or resume into a virtual trash can! Check out the “iHire” and “Main Spring” interviews in the LinkedIn course – you’ll be glad you did.

Getting Started with Zoom

Once upon a time people sat face-to-face conducting job interviews! (Just kidding - but only a little). Taking part in Zoom “interviews” is now commonplace. Do you know what it takes to be well-prepared for a successful job interview on Zoom? Do you “look” the part? Are you dressed for job-seeking success? Do you have the proper “gear”?

If you’re looking for a job and would like to know how to shine online during a Zoom interview, then check out the Getting Started with Zoom course. You’ll learn how to take part as a Zoom guest, audio/video options, best practices & more.

Both of these tutorials are available for viewing on-demand at no cost on the e-Learning page at FrederickWORKS.com. You can watch from the comfort of your own home, and at your own pace, whenever it is most convenient for you. Be sure to check the page periodically as new courses are posted to the online library!
