Are You Ready For Delta?
By Max Dougé
In complex math problems, delta (Δ) references change. In everyday life, including the work environment, there is always a delta: time, people, costs/expenses, health, and more. Despite our best attempts to stick to a plan or maintain schedules or manage budgets, change will inevitably affect what we do. And so far in 2020, delta is amplified to the Nth degree!
So how will your business account for delta? Businesses across the country are implementing phased-in openings and re-openings resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, dealing with its economic impact, and addressing social issues that are affecting the well-being of their staff, their clients and ultimately their bottom line. For the benefit of the business, individuals and organizations must find effective solutions to address unforeseen changes coming our way.
A 2016 Harvard Business Review article, titled How To Get Better At Dealing With Change, provided interesting suggestions for individuals:
Find the humor in the situation
Talk about problems more than feelings
Don’t stress out about stressing out
Focus on your values instead of your fears
Accept the past, but fight for the future
Don’t expect stability
Individuals, however, are not the only ones required to make necessary adjustments; businesses must also adapt to changes. David Lewis, CEO of OperationsInc HR Consulting, shared his thoughts about preparing the workplace post-COVID in a recent article by CardRates.com. He emphasizes the importance of familiarity with measures set by state and local government, and provides these additional insights for organizations:
Workplace safety goes beyond wearing masks
Take control of a positive test in the workplace
Embrace the inevitable future of a remote workforce
Address the insanity of 2020 head-on, adjust in mid-stride, and do your best to stay ahead in this crazy game of business and life. For more details about preparing for delta, check out these two articles… and try to the best of your ability to remain as flexible as you can:
