Logistics and Production Program Overview

The Logistics and Production program is a robust training program designed to help job seekers gain the fundamental skills necessary to enter Frederick’s growing Logistics industry as a Certified Logistics Technician.  The participants engage in classroom training, exam prep, and career readiness sessions from November 13, 2023, to December 14, 2023. After completion of training, participants will interview for a transitional work experience opportunity with a local business.

  • Training focuses on receiving, stocking, shipping, inventory control, materials handling, and dispatch. The course includes prep and assessments for two national industry credentials, Certified Logistics Associate and Certified Logistics Technician.

    1. Receive and stock products.

    2. Process orders, prepare and package products for shipment.

    3. Monitor control of inventory.

    4. Safely demonstrate handling of hazardous materials.

    5. Evaluate transportation modes and perform dispatch and tracking operations.

    6. Perform U.S. measurements and metric system conversions.

  • Sessions focus on supply chain management and career readiness skills such as:

    1. Material Operations

    2. Business Communication

    3. Cutting Costs and Optimizing Delivery

    4. Team Collaboration/Problem Solving

    5. Supply Chain Transparency

    6. Time Management

    7. Resume & Interview Skills

Transitional Work Experience - What is it?

A transitional work experience allows a local business to host a program participant for temporary part-time employment. Local businesses serve as worksites for participants, while Frederick County Workforce Services covers their pay. During this work experience, the local business provides supervision and mentorship to a participant. In return, the participant gains relevant work experience and confidence connecting to the workforce.  We are looking for businesses to join as worksites!

Benefits of Becoming a Worksite

  • We screen and select participants in the program based on skills, abilities, aptitude, and work values.

  • All participants must successfully complete training to be considered for a transitional work experience.

  • You are connected to local talent and will be highlighted on Workforce Services’ website.

  • We pay participants $17.00/hr for up to 30 hours weekly.

  • You determine the work schedule based on YOUR needs.

Employer of Record is Frederick County

  • FCWS will pay all wages/taxes through grant funds.

  • Frederick County provides all mandatory employer insurance.

Work Experience Timeline

  • Interview dates are December 15, 18, 19, 20, 2023

  • Work Experience dates are January 8, 2024 - March 1, 2024

  • Participants can work Monday-Friday and be scheduled up to 30 hours per week.

Your Responsibilities

  • Interview referred candidates.

  • Provide appropriate supervision, mentoring, and specific job training to the hired participants at your business.

  • Sign and submit digital timesheets to FCWS for participant work hours.

  • Regularly communicate with FCWS program staff about progress, concerns, and successes!
