Thanksgiving Thoughts
First, some fun facts. Did you know…
The first Thanksgiving is believed to have been a 3-day harvest festival.
Thanksgiving has been around since George Washington, but became a formal, recognized holiday during Abraham Lincoln’s administration at the conclusion of the Civil War.
According to the White House Historical Association, the first US president to pardon a turkey is believed to have been President Reagan.
The first Thanksgiving NFL game took place in 1934; Detroit Lions hosted the Chicago Bears, beginning a tradition of hosting a game each Thanksgiving.
No doubt, Thanksgiving 2020 will certainly feel different than usual. Our country has had its share of challenges and losses, particularly due to the current pandemic, but it shouldn’t distract from the intention of giving thanks for what we have. This year, I’d like to suggest we give special thanks for the following:
Essential workers who have kept our country going through challenging times
Scientists who have worked hard to understand Covid-19 in order to develop a vaccine
Teachers who have had to learn how to teach in a whole new way, and in a very short period of time
Companies who have allowed their staff to be safe at home while continuing to work
Entertainers who find new ways to provide levity during stressful times
Parents (aka, Super Parents) for learning to manage, balance, and parent in unprecedented ways to keep their families together and engaged
My fellow U.S. citizens for having incredible resilience to persevere throughout 2020
Have a Safe and Happy Thanksgiving!
