August is National Black Business Month

By Max Dougé

During the month of August, we celebrate National Black Business Month. During the early 1900s, All Saints Street was the community hub for Black residents of the city of Frederick. While it’s primarily a residential neighborhood today, All Saints Street was once home to many Black businesses like barber shops, grocery stores, churches, medical practices, and more.

Today, Black businesses continue their contribution to the fabric of the City of Frederick and Frederick County. Local Black businesses have expanded into technology/business (MTC Integration), leadership development (Uplift), the arts (Dream Free Art), business support services (Lee Building Maintenance), nonprofit (Soul Street), consulting (The Word Woman), healthcare (Masters Specialty Pharmacy), and much more.
