Our FCWS Youth Program Manager, Kara Fritz, and Division of Economic Opportunity Director, Lara Fritts, had the opportunity to join County Executive Jessica Fitzwater in a visit with one of our Summer Jobs Program employer partners, Steve Schmidt and Dave Schmidt from Frederick Air Inc. Frederick Air has partnered with this program for several years, providing youth in our community with opportunities to gain work experience.

During our visit, we also met Mateo and Rashon, two participants of the Summer Jobs Program. Mateo participated in the program in 2023 and was hired by Frederick Air. He is a current high school student and provides administrative support for Frederick Air in their office. Rashon has been working with an installation crew this summer and plans to pursue a career in HVAC, starting with HVAC classes this fall.

The Summer Jobs Program is a Frederick County Government initiative operated by Workforce Services. Through this program, Frederick County youth gain valuable work experience and earn a paycheck while working in businesses throughout the county. Our business partners have the opportunity to invest in the future of our workforce, share their passion for their businesses, and receive additional summer help.
